This is an inverter cooling pump fit for the 2004-2008 Hybrid Toyota Prius.

This part is often first to go and is the first thing you should plan on replacing when hit with the notorious hybrid red triangle of death / engine light.

A quick way to diagnose if your pump needs to be replaced:

1) Before a cold start open the radiator cap that is in front of the hybrid inverter in your engine bay.

2) Cold start the Prius and note the level of the coolant, if the level rises and falls in bursts, then you have a functional cooling pump. Note: this is not always the case and old pumps can tend to cease on and off, it is recommended you replace your hybrid inverter pump every 50,000km-100,000km as a preventative measure.

3) If the level of coolant does not rise and fall, you need to replace your inverter pump ASAP before you drive and overheat the inverter and cause major damage to it.

The hybrid inverter (beside engine) is essentially the heart and soul of your Hybrid Prius, therefore it is essential to take good care of it and from time to time check that the cooling pump is working correctly to prevent expensive repairs. If you do end up replacing the pump, flush the coolant as well since older coolant can have debris and buildup that can gunk up the pump and cease it again.
